monterey bay, here we are

drove down highway 1 in our rental SUV--a story in itself just getting the thing-- yesterday afternoon. hazy and cloudy much of the way, but some wonderful ocean views. stopped for strawberry shortcake and tayberry cheesecake at a seaside farm and bakery called swanson's. was cute--payment on the honor system; said they were 'world famous' but emma doubted that. got in the hotel (right on the beach on the bay in monterery) and then got some dinner on cannery row (made famous by steinbeck) and got some provisions at a local grocery store. terri's having a toothache flair up so we're hoping to get some medicine this morning and then head out and do some more sightseeing. and, we're off...
